4 Sep 2024

PCIM Asia 2024, Asia’s leading international platform for communication and exchange in power electronics, intelligent motion, renewable energy and energy management, concluded on 30 August at the Shenzhen World Exhibition and Convention Center in China. Setting new records across nearly all metrics, the 2024 edition was the largest and most comprehensive iteration of the event to date. Floor space grew by a record-breaking 8,000 sqm to a total of 20,000 sqm, with this expansion matched by significant increases in both exhibitor and visitor participation.

Key figures from PCIM Asia 2024:

  • 18,346 visits (20% increase over 2023 edition)
  • Visitors from 41 countries and regions
  • 232 exhibitors (28% increase over 2023 edition)
  • Exhibitors from 13 countries and regions
  • Exhibition space: 20,000 sqm (67% increase over 2023 edition)

With exhibitor participation at an all-time high, this year’s event drew attendance from across the power electronics sector. Market leaders showcased their latest offerings in power semiconductor components, integrated circuits, passive components, power converters, testing and measurement, and more.

Visitor attendance also surpassed previous records. Engineers, researchers and decision-makers from sectors including industrial electronics, e-mobility and renewable energy gathered to stay informed about the latest solutions and industry developments.

To promote further dialogue and collaboration, the exhibition presented a series of industry forums, exhibitor forums and round-table discussions, covering topics ranging from wide-bandgap semiconductors and e-mobility to eVTOL development. At these sessions, representatives from top companies and leading researchers shared insights on development trends, new market applications and cutting-edge research.

PCIM Asia Conference and awards
Alongside the exhibition, the PCIM Asia Conference 2024 once again brought together leading experts and researchers to speak on technical advancements and applications in power electronics.

Key figures from the PCIM Asia Conference 2024:

  • 3 keynote speeches, 12 oral sessions and 6 poster sessions
  • 104 presentations
  • 981 conference visits

Attendees praised the conference’s depth and relevance, noting its effectiveness in facilitating industry-academia partnerships and its focused discussions on key advancements including vehicle electrification, renewable energy and wide bandgap semiconductors. Participants also emphasised its dual role in promoting scientific advancement while supporting the translation of research findings into tangible industrial solutions.

To honour outstanding work in power electronics and support innovation in the industry, the conference also presented its annual awards. Sponsored by Mitsubishi Electric & Electronics (Shanghai) Co Ltd, this year’s Best Paper Award, recognising the best overall submission at the conference, went to Mr Gonzalo Picun of Soitec, for his paper, “A 150 & 200mm engineered substrate increasing SiC power device current density up to 30%”

Designed to encourage emerging talent and recognise engineers under the age of 35, this year’s Young Engineer Award, sponsored by Semikron Danfoss, was awarded to Mr Daichi Yosho of Mitsubishi Electric Corporation.

Finally, celebrating achievements from university faculty and students, the University Scientist Award, sponsored by Infineon Technologies, was presented to the following five recipients:

  • Prof Christos Mademlis, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki
  • Dr Zhang Xiongsen, Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics
  • Dr Jiang Xun, Hefei University of Technology
  • Dr Song Longbing, Tsinghua University
  • Prof Hu Sideng, Zhejiang University

“PCIM Asia holds considerable influence over the industry. At its 2024 edition, CRRC showcased products for the high-voltage sector, the new energy vehicle sector and new energy power generation, along with low-to-medium power industrial control products. Our booth saw a strong and engaged turnout of industry experts, peers and potential partners, providing us with valuable opportunities for promotion, communication and learning.”
Ms Zhao Yanyu, Marketing Manager, ZHUZHOU CRRC TIMES SEMICONDUCTOR CO LTD

“We are honoured to be a part of PCIM Asia’s excellent platform. The event’s strategy of alternating between Shenzhen and Shanghai each year has clearly attracted new participants, with noticeably higher attendance than in previous years. Moreover, the involvement of academia and students not only injects fresh energy, but also creates new opportunities for the future application and promotion of our products”
Mr Chen Song, General Manager, Semiconductor Application Engineering Dept II, Fuji Electric (China) Co Ltd

“We have participated in PCIM Asia for over a decade. It stands out as a specialised event for power electronics that caters to the whole industry, aligning well with our product portfolio. Accordingly, we have brought with us a wide range of products, including sensors for photovoltaic inverters, 6mA leakage current sensors for charging stations, DC meters, and our CAB series for new energy vehicle battery management. Visitor flow has been higher than in previous years, with a continuous flow of interested parties stopping by for discussions.”
Ms Li Haiying, Marketing Manager, LEM Electronics (China) Co Ltd

Fair visitor feedback:
“PCIM Asia is the premier event for Asia’s power semiconductor industry, bringing together the world’s leading power electronics companies, and setting the future direction of the field. So far, I’ve already connected with more than ten potential suppliers of SiC and GaN packaging modules and heat sink processing and expressed our interest in collaborating. My colleagues have also reported that the Conference and forum programmes are rich with content and highly beneficial for deepening industry knowledge.”
Mr Cui Jun, Optical Development, Tianjin Samsung LED Co Ltd

“Having been a regular attendee since 2008, this year, I’ve observed many new advancements in IGBT, SiC and energy storage technologies both on the show floor and through the concurrent forum sessions.
